I've visited Alaska a couple of times so far. Both involved road trips, one covering the south-central region, and the other on the Kenai Peninsula. It's a massive state, so I feel like I've only scratched the surface. Even so, I've been struck by the immense beauty and feeling of being in a truly wild space, even when on state highways.
California is a state of dramatic contrasts. ranging from the cost, to the dramatic Sierra Nevada, desert landscapes, and everything in between.
My home is in the western Sierra foothills, about an hour and a quarter from the gate to world-famous Yosemite National Park. I feel fortunate to have such beauty within reach.

Although a neighbor to California, my visits to Nevada have been relatively few. I'm struck by the wide-open spaces, mountain landscapes, and the desert. While not what many expect, the desert has a unique beauty.
